US share of India’s MEG imports rises in 2025

19 November 2025

As India seeks to reduce its dependence on Middle Eastern suppliers, the US has emerged as an alternative source, aligning with India’s broader goal of diversifying chemical imports (Indian American International Chamber of Commerce). Meanwhile, US mono ethylene glycol (MEG) prices began declining in 2Q 2025 due to oversupply and subdued downstream PET demand, making American exports more competitive globally. Ongoing trade agreement negotiations between the US and India could further support US exports into India. From Jan-Aug 2025, about 12% of India’s MEG imports originated from the U.S.—a notable increase compared to last year. With India’s polyester market continuing to expand and the country’s removal of Quality Control Order (QCO), MEG shipments are likely to rise, which may support imports from the US.
